If you are looking into midwifery care or home birth, there are sure to be many questions! Here are the answers to some common concerns:
What are the different types of midwives?
How much does home birth cost?
Do I need to see a doctor too?
Prenatal care with a licensed midwife is complete care; having concurrent care with an MD is optional. In the event that you develop a condition that requires consultation or referral to an MD or CNM we will attempt to refer you to the practitioner of your choice, but some clinics do not allow referrals from practices that are not in the same health system. In that case, we will refer you to the OB on call at the hospital or emergency room of your choice.
What if there is a birth emergency?
What if I don’t want to give birth in my own home?
Many options are available for people who wish to work with an OGM midwife, but do not want to give birth in their own home. There is a birthing suite available at our Green Bay location. You could opt for birth at your friend or family member’s home, or you can see us for exceptional prenatal and postnatal care only, and give birth in a hospital with an MD or CNM.
Can I get an ultrasound / sonogram if I’m planning home birth with a midwife?
Oak Grove Midwifery, LLC offers all laboratory and imaging tests that would be routinely offered in obstetric offices. We are contracted with a mobile imaging service that comes to our office or to your home to provide early dating ultrasound, 18-20 week anatomy scan, third trimester ultrasound, biophysical profile or other scans that are determined necessary by you and your midwife.
How far do you travel?
Oak Grove Midwifery serves clients in a 75 mile radius of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Stacy Vandenput, CPM, LM is licensed in both Wisconsin and Michigan. Clients who live further than 75 miles are invited to give birth here in our birthing suite. Some families who live at further distances have had us attend them at a friend or family member’s home or in hotels within range.
